DECORAH, Iowa (Nov. 29, 2012)— The North Central College women's basketball team led from the opening possession en route to the commanding victory over Luther College, Thursday night at the Regents Center.
The North Central defense forced 37 turnovers while the Cardinals shot a season high 42 percent from three-point range (17-40).
Maryssa Cladis hit a jumper on the Cardinals first possession of the contest to put North Central on the board, 2-0.
The Cardinals (4-2) opened up a double-digit lead at the 15:31 mark after draining a trio of three-pointers on consecutive possessions.
Callie Rezin sunk one from long range before
Paula Elum drained a pair of North Central's 12 three-pointers in the opening half.
The North Central defense forced 19 turnovers in the first half, opening up a 51-37 lead at the intermission.
In the second half, the Norse (4-2) put together a 9-0 scoring run, shrinking the Cardinals lead to 53-48 with just under 17 minutes remaining.
North Central would score the following six points as
Bobbi Johns hit a free-throw to complete a three-point play and
Lauren Hernandez nailed a three on the next possession, putting the Cardinals back ahead by double-digits.
The Cardinals largest lead came at the 7:47 mark as Hernandez put home one of her team leading four three-pointers on the night, increasing the Norse deficit to 83-63.
Jenny Swanson led the Cardinals with 17 points, going 4-7 from beyond the arch.
Bobbi Johns finished with 15 points and three steals, while Hernandez chipped in 14 points on 4-8 shooting from three.
North Central completes its four game road trip on Dec. 7, taking on Lake Forest College at 7 p.m.
