ALBION, Mich. (Aug. 31, 2012) - After a scoreless first half, the North Central College men's soccer team scored three times in at 12 ½ minute span, including two goals by senior
T.J. Simmons, and held on for a 3-2 win in the season opener at Albion.

Simmons got the scoring going in the second half for the Cardinals when he buried a penalty kick past Mike Crinion in the 46
th minute, giving the visitors a lead they would never relinquish. Just 34 seconds later,
Charlie Stanke took a
Lucas Habeeb pass and found the back of the net to make the score 2-0. Simmons blew the game wide open in the 58
th minute after scoring on assists by
Jeff Jones and
Jake Johnson.
Albion ended the Cardinal shutout in the 68
th minute when Kyle Asheskie beat
John McWard for his first goal of the season. The Britons added another goal as time expired, but their rally ran out of time as North Central still owned a 3-2 edge.
Mcward picked up his first career victory between the pipes; making five saves including four in the second half.
The hosts held a 16-11 advantage in shots, led by Asheskie and Kurt Miller who had three each. Habeeb led all players with five.
The Cardinals (1-0) continue their weekend roadtrip through Michigan when they take on Adrian College tomorrow at 6:00 p.m.
