Cardinals Stay Unbeaten in CCIW Play

WHEATON, Ill. (Sept. 26, 2012) - The North Central College volleyball team improved to 3-0 in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play on Tuesday evening, avenging a pair of losses from last season by defeating Wheaton College, 3-1, at King Arena.

The Cardinals (14-4, 3-0 CCIW) join Augustana College and Elmhurst College as the only CCIW teams to remain unbeaten in conference competition. Wheaton, which defeated North Central last season in the regular season, 3-1, and again in the CCIW Tournament play-in match, 3-0, dropped to 4-14 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

North Central was dominant in the opening set, posting a 25-11 win, and took control of the match with a 25-22 win in the second set. The Thunder bounced back and claimed the third set, 25-22, before the Cardinals closed out the match with a 25-21 fourth-set victory.

Amanda Hilmer and Jenae Harner finsihed with 11 kills each for the Cardinals, while Kedryn Orrison and Amanda Walker each had 10. Orrison, who hit .556 in the contest, also led the team with a career-high five total blocks. Sarah Eggert led North Central with 23 digs and Laura Kluk finished with 48 assists.

Wheaton got a match-high 14 kills from Emily Buyse and 16 digs from Megan Thornton.

North Central is idle until Tuesday, Oct. 2, when it travels to face Augustana (12-2, 2-0). Action at the Carver Center is scheduled to get under way at 7 p.m.
