Bloomington, Ill. (Sept. 29, 2012) – Tim Griffin's second goal of the evening came in the 80th minute and broke a, 1-1, tie as Illinois Wesleyan University defeated the North Central College men's soccer team, 2-1, on Saturday night.
The Cardinals took an early, 1-0, lead in the 31st minute when
Jeff Jones blasted a free kick off the Titan wall and past the Wesleyan keeper. However, the Titans answered just before halftime on a header by Griffin.
The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin rivals remained tied at one for just under forty minutes until Griffin provided the difference maker.
T.J. Simmons and
Michael Lenzi led the offensive attack for North Central with two shots apiece, but the Cardinals were outshot by the Titans 13-7 as a team. Wesleyan's Andrew Reed made two stops in goal for the Titans, while North Central's
Kyle DeRaedt made three.
The Cardinals (7-3) continue the CCIW portion of their schedule on Wednesday when they travel to Elmhurst College on Oct. 3 at 7:30 p.m.
