Volleyball Routs Concordia at Gregory

The North Central College volleyball team treated its supporters to a dominant performance in the Cardinals' first home match of the 2012 season on Wednesday, rolling to a 3-0 victory over Concordia University Chicago at Gregory Arena.

North Central improved to 4-1 on the season and posted head coach Karen Bunkenburg's 250th victory with the Cardinals' program. Bunkenburg is now 16 victories away from matching Marcy Thurwachter for the North Central career record.

The Cardinals scored the first four points of the match and never trailed in the opening set, posting a 25-17 win. The hosts pulled ahead even further in the second set, posting a sterling .583 hitting percentage and cruising to a 25-15 victory. Jenae Harner hit .700 with seven kills and five digs in the second set for North Central.

Concordia (1-3) emerged midway through the third set and took a 10-9 lead, but the Cardinals responded by closing the match with a 16-5 run, including six of the final seven points. 

Harner finished with team highs of 13 kills and 10 digs, while Kedryn Orrison hit .500 with 11 kills, two service aces and three total blocks. Laura Kluk paced the Cardinals with 38 assists.

North Central travels to Aurora University on Friday and Saturday for the Jim Coleman Memorial Tournament.
