Sept. 8, 2012 -  Dan Czernicki booted home the game-winning goal with just over three minutes gone by in overtime to lift Carroll University to a, 2-1, victory over North Central College on Saturday in the Cardinals home opener.  The goal also ended the Cardinals three-game winning streak to start the season.

Box Score

North Central's Ryan Johnson found Charlie Stanke open on the left side and Stanke blasted a shot over the head of Pioneer keeper Tomek Miaskowski to give the Cardinals an early 1-0 lead in the 13th minute.  The Cardinals hung on and held a 1-0 advantage at the half.

In the second half, Nikolai Miskov knotted the score at one in the 72nd minute after sneaking a goal past Kyle DeRaedt, but the Cardinal defense stiffened and the teams headed to overtime.

Czernicki ended a rough game that featured eight yellow cards when he scored a golden goal on a pass from Nemanja Medic in the 93rd minute.

Carroll (1-2) outshot the Cardinals 13-10, with Francisco Sajuan leading the way for the Pioneers with three.  Jake Muszczynski led the hosts with four shots including two on goal.

John McWard didn't allow a goal in his 45 minutes between the pipes and made three saves on the afternoon.

North Central (3-1) is back in action tomorrow afternoon at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium when they host Franklin College at 5:00 p.m.
