Jan. 5, 2013 - Suffering through a night-long bout of cold shooting, the North Central College women's basketball team lost for the third time in four games with a 106-67 to rival Wheaton College on Saturday at Gregory Arena.
The Cardinals (7-6, 0-2 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) were able to make just 19.6 percent of their shots from the floor (18-92) and 17.0 percent from three-point range (9-53) in falling to the Thunder for the seventh straight time.
Wheaton (11-1, 2-0 CCIW) led throughout, steadily building its advantage throughout the first half and closing the opening period on a 18-5 run to head into halftime with a 54-28 lead. The Thunder led by as many as 50 points in the second half.
The visitors had five players score in double figures, led by senior guard Brooke Olson's 26 points and six assists. Hannah Considine added 14 points, while Moriah Reeves put up 12, Maria Panaggio added 11 (with 11 rebounds) and Breanna Bohlen scored 10.
Both of North Central's top scorers came off the bench, as
Larynn Shumaker put up 18 points and seven rebounds and
Sophie Newson totaled 16 points, nine rebounds and four steals.
