Saint Mary's Box Score

UW-Oshkosh Box Score

(Oct. 12, 2013) – After plowing through the competition on Friday, the North Central College volleyball team dropped matches to Saint Mary's University of Minnesota and the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh on the final day of the 2013 Tiffany Robinson Memorial Tournament.

After falling behind 9-4 in the opening set to Saint Mary's, North Central battled back to tie the score at 15.  The visitors rattled off five of the next six points, but North Central responded with a 4-0 stretch to take a slim 21-20 advantage.  Saint Mary's took back the lead 24-21, but Danielle Williams's kill made the score 24-23.  However, a kill by Alex Peterson finished off the first set for Saint Mary's.

North Central held an 11-10 lead in the second set, before the visitors scored eight straight points to build an insurmountable 18-11 lead, and finished the second set 25-14.  North Central kept the third set close, but fell once again 25-21.

Williams powered the Cardinal attack with nine kills and a team-high eight digs.  Kedryn Orrison chipped in five kills to go with five blocks, while Laura Kluk amassed 26 assists.

For the second time this season, the Cardinals were defeated by UW-Oshkosh 3-0 (25-21-25-20, 25-18).  The first set was a back and forth affair with ties and lead changes throughout.  A kill by Williams made the score 21 all late, but the Titans scored the final four points of the set to earn the 25-21 victory.

In the second set, the Titans opened up a large 13-5 lead, but the Cardinals clawed back into the match and cut the lead to 19-16 on another kill by Williams.  After a kill by Nerissa Vogt, North Central responded with a kill by Bridget White and took advantage of a Titan attack error, making the score 20-18.  However, that was as close as the Cardinals would come.

The final set was more of the same as North Central kept it close, but Oshkosh scored six of the sets final eight points to finish of the hosts.

White led the team with 11 kills and added 1.5 blocks.  Kluk passed out 28 assists, and Williams and Jessie Fiala led the defense with 10 and 14 digs, respectively.

Because of her play this weekend, Fiala was named to the all-tournament squad.  Fiala registered 56 digs over the course of the four games including 25 against the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on Friday.

The Cardinals stay at home on Tuesday when they entertain Augustana College for senior night at 7:00 p.m. inside Gregory Arena.
