Men's Soccer Unable to Mount Comeback at #25 North Park

CHICAGO, Ill. (Oct. 26, 2013) –
The North Central College men's soccer team was unable to come back from a two-goal deficit, falling to 25th-ranked North Park University, 2-1 in a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) meeting at the Holmgren Complex.
 
North Park's Jonas Pettersson broke open a scoreless tie in the 37th minute, knocking home a rebound to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
 
At the 58:10 mark, the Vikings (11-4-2, 4-1-1 CCIW) took advantage of a Cardinal foul inside the box, as Pettersson connected on the penalty kick for his 12th goal of the season, increasing the North Park lead 2-0.
 
In the 65th minute, the Cardinals (6-7-3, 1-4-0 CCIW) cut the lead in half as Chandler Olah snuck one past North Park goalkeeper Wesley Woodley off a pass from Michael Lenzi.
 
North Central outshot the Vikings 21-17 on the evening while holding an 8-1 margin in corner kicks in the second half, but was unable to find the equalizer down the stretch.
 
Kyle DeRaedt stopped seven shots in the losing effort, while Woodley saved 14 North Central shots on the evening in goal for the Vikings.
 
North Central hosts Elmhurst College, Wednesday, October 30 at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.  Kickoff is slated for 7 pm.
