Nov. 15, 2013 – The North Central College women's basketball team opened up the 2013-14 slate in thrilling fashion, coming back from five points down with just 26 seconds remaining in regulation to defeat Ripon College in overtime 113-111 in the opening round of the Chicago Marriott Naperville Tip-Off Tournament, setting a new program record for single game scoring along the way.
Down by five with 26 seconds remaining in regulation,
Bobbi Johns drove the length of the court and layed in a tough shot, drawing a foul in the process. Johns completed the three-point play to bring the Cardinals to within two, 99-97.
After a Ripon offensive foul the next time down the court,
DeJa Moore took the in bounds pass, drove the length of the floor through the Red Hawk defense and layed the ball in to send the contest to overtime.
With the score tied 111-111 and just seven seconds left on the clock, Moore struck again, this time hitting the game winning layup to give the Cardinals the decisive 113-111 lead. In the overtime period, the two teams traded the lead three times with six ties.
The Cardinals (1-0) led by six points at halftime and by as many as 10 in the second half. The 113 points eclipses a program record for single game scoring set last season in a 110-68 victory over Dominican University.
