NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Nov. 2, 2013)– The North Central College men's soccer team ended the season on an exciting note on Senior Day as they defeated the Illinois Wesleyan Titans, 3-2.
Both teams came out powerfully in the first half as they battled back and forth with possession of the ball. North Central finally took the momentum at 9:30 into the match as
Jake Muszczynski scored the first goal. It was followed up just five minutes later with a hard kicked goal by
Joey Faleni who was assisted by
Michael Lenzi.
Illinois Wesleyan (9-8-2, CCIW 3-4) responded by returning some hard hits to North Central (7-8-3, CCIW 1-5) as they fought for the ball back. With less than three minutes left in the first half, North Central's
Lucas Habeeb took the ball down the line and scored the third goal for the Cardinals.
Entering the second half, both teams pushed hard to maintain power over the ball as each side received penalties. The Titan's finally had a break through, 53:22, into the match with a goal by Declan Geraghty.
Cardinal goalkeeper
John McWard made two big saves which kept the Titans from scoring. But one shot got through, 83:48, into the game as Illinois Wesleyan brought the score 3-2, one short of tying.
The crowd at BW-Stadium was getting louder as the Cardinals kept their energy up until the final second of the game as they cleared the ball down the field and secured the win.
The Cardinal soccer program recognized each senior prior to the game for their dedication to the team and College. North Central thanks these student-athletes for their hard work over the years.
