KENOSHA, Wis. (Feb. 22, 2013) –
Playing in its first College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Tournament since 2009, the North Central College women's basketball team was unable to upset top-seeded Carthage College inside Tarble Arena.

The Cardinals led by as many as ten points with 1:41 remaining in the opening half as Larynn Shumaker scored two of her team high 20 points, before Carthage scored the last four points of the half to narrow the North Central lead 40-34.

The Lady Reds (22-4) opened the second half with a 10-3 run capped off by a Haley Stercic three-pointer, giving the hosts a two-point advantage with just over 11 minutes to play.

The two teams traded leads over the next ten minutes before Carthage's Erin Quinn knocked down a free throw, breaking a 70-70 tie at the 5:47 mark.  The Lady Reds would not surrender the lead the rest of the way, making 10 of 14 free throws down the stretch en route to the double-digit victory.

Shumaker's 20-point effort paced the Cardinal offense, while Sophie Newson added 11 points and Kelsey Cooling chipped in seven points, five rebounds.

The Lady Reds were led by Cailee Corcoran's 30 point, 10 rebound double-double.  Alexis Hahn finished with 20 points off the bench while Stephanie Kuzmanic and Haley Stercic each added 11.

North Central ends the season with a 13-13 record, compiling a 6-8 record in CCIW play.
