Cardinals Struck Down by Titans, 102-69

The North Central College women's basketball team was unable to keep up with College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) foe Illinois Wesleyan University, falling by a 102-69 margin inside Gregory Arena.

The visiting Titans (15-7, 8-3 CCIW) jumped out to an early double-digit lead halfway through the opening period as a Colleen McMahon jumper capped off a 16-4 run, giving Illinois Wesleyan a 27-13 lead.

The Cardinals (11-11, 4-7 CCIW) responded with a 15-2 run of its own over the next four minutes, trimming the Titan advantage to just one with 6:37 to play in the opening half led by consecutive thee-pointers from Kelsey Cooling, Maryssa Cladis and Marion Boeck.

North Central was unable to hold the momentum as Illinois Wesleyan closed out the last five minutes before halftime with a 17-4 run, taking a 48-34 lead into the intermission.

The Titan offense continued rolling in the second half, opening up a 20-point advantage just two minutes into play and would open up a 34-point lead at one point in the second half.

Larynn Shumaker led the Cardinals in scoring with 14 points while Kelsey Cooling added 11 points and Emily Murphy chipped in 10.

Illinois Wesleyan finished the evening with six players scoring in double-figures, paced by double-doubles from Katy Seibring (25 points, 11 rebounds) and Taylor Reaber (17 points, 15 rebounds).

North Central travels to Augustana College on Saturday, Feb. 9 with tipoff slated for 5 p.m.
