Men's Soccer Upended in Season Opener

Waukesha, Wis. (Sept. 1, 2013) –
Opening up the 2013 season, the North Central College men's soccer team was undone at the hands of Carroll University, 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Schneider Stadium.
 
In the opening 45 minutes, the Cardinals (0-1) outshot the Pioneers (1-1-0) by an eight to four margin, but neither team was able to find the back of the net.
 
With less than 15 minutes remaining in regulation, Carroll's Ryan Burton broke open the scoreless tie, striking from 18 yards out to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
 
The Carroll defense would hold off the Cardinal attack in the remaining minutes backed by goalkeeper Tomek Miaskowski's four saves, despite the Cardinals outshooting the Pioneers 11 to 8.
 
Cardinal goalkeeper Kyle DeRaedt was credited with the loss while recording two saves, while Ryan Johnson and Chandler Olah were credited with three shots each.
 
North Central is back in action Monday, September 2 traveling to Monmouth College after the two teams were postponed due to weather in the original season opener.  Kickoff a Peacock Memorial Athletic Park is scheduled for 5 pm.
