Volleyball Beaten Twice at Oshkosh

Oshkosh, Wis. (Sept. 13, 2013) – On the first day of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Pizza Hut Classic, the North Central College volleyball team was tripped up by St. Norbert College 3-1, and was topped 3-0 by the host UW-Oshkosh Titans at the Kolf Sports Center.

In the tournament opener for the Cardinals (3-6), North Central fell in a hard fought match to the Green Knights.  Each set was determined by two or three points.  St. Norbert scored the first set 25-22, before the Cardinals bounced back to win the second 25-23, however the Green Knights took the final two sets 25-23 and 25-22. 

Amanda Hilmer led the attack with 16 kills and Kedryn Orrison chipped in 11.  Laura Kluk dished out 42 assists to go with eight digs, while Jessie Fiala led the team in that category with nine.  Orrison also led North Central with three service aces.    

Against UW-Oshkosh, the Cardinals were defeated in straight sets by scores of 25-16, 25-14, and 25-10.  North Central was led offensively by Taylor Cullen's four kills, while Kluk added three to go with two blocks.  Katie Connolly passed out nine assists, while Sarah Eggert led the team with five digs. 

The Titans were paced by Katelyn Malcheski's nine kills while Jordyn Bratel and Jessica Fischer both added eight a piece.  Alison Tomczyk had a game-high 24 assists. 

The Cardinals finish up the Pizza Hut Classic tomorrow when they take on the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at 10:00 a.m. and Wartburg College at 12:00 p.m.
