Monmouth, Ill. (Sept. 2, 2013) – The North Central College men's soccer team found the win column for the first time this season with a 2-1 victory over Monmouth College, Monday evening at Peacock Memorial Athletic Park.
The Cardinals (1-1-0) outshot Monmouth 19-4 and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks on the night, but fought back from an early 1-0 deficit as the Fighting Scots (0-1-1) tallied the game's first score as Max Daniels broke through the North Central defense to tally his first goal of the season.
With just seconds remaining before halftime, Ricardo Serrano's corner kick found Matt Koth in front of the net as the sophomore put home his second career goal to knot the score 1-1.
After multiple scoring chances in the second half, the Cardinals' Joey Faleni knocked home a rebound in front of the net with just seven seconds remaining in regulation to give North Central the decisive 2-1 advantage.
Kyle DeRaedt earned his first victory of the season in goal, stopping three shots on the night while Monmouth goalkeeper Matt Schmidt made 12 saves in the losing effort.
North Central is back in action Friday, September 6 hosting Albion College (Mich.) in the opening game of the Sal Vaccaro Tournament. Kickoff at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium is slated for 7:30 pm.
