Box Score

Sept. 21, 2013 –
The North Central College men's soccer team played a tough No. 24 University of Chicago team to a scoreless draw, Saturday night inside Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.

The two teams were very evenly matched, trading scoring chances in the opening 45 minutes as each team ripped off four shots, but neither team was able to find the back of the net.

In the second half, the Maroons (3-2-1) outshot North Central by an 11-5 margin, but the Cardinals (4-2-2) had the best scoring chance of the second period as John Kissel sent a rising shot off the crossbar in the 70th minute.

In the first overtime, Chicago's Peter Boxley got a good look at the net and sent in a strike from 20 yards out that was deflected high on a great save by Cardinal goalkeeper Kyle DeRaedt, one of his seven saves on the evening.

Maroon goalie Brett Wiesen countered with a great save of his own in the second overtime period, just getting a finger on Michael Lenzi's header off a Charlie Stanke corner kick.

Wiesen stopped five Cardinal shots on the night, moving to 3-1-1 on the season while DeRaedt runs his record to 4-2-2.

North Central travels to Central College (Iowa), Sept. 24 at 4 pm, in the Cardinals last tune-up before College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play.
