#6 Elmhurst Bounces Cardinals in Home Opener

(Sept. 24, 2013) – In the home and conference opener for the 2013 season, the North Central College volleyball team was defeated by No.6-ranked Elmhurst College inside the recently renovated Gregory Arena.

The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin defending champions deafeated the Cardinals in straight sets, 25-16, 25-22, 25-18.

North Central held their own in the opening set, and an attack error by Bluejay Megan Reynolds tied the score at 14. However, the visitors regrouped and scored 11 of the final 13 points to win the opener. Amanda Hilmer registered four of her team-high eight kills in the first set.

After falling behind 18-13, the Cardinals rallied and closed the Elmhurst lead to 22-23, before kills by Kaitlyn Wilkes and Marci Novak ended the set. The Bluejays earned a wire-to-wire victory in the third and final set.

Amanda Walker produced seven kills to pace the Cardinal attack to go along with a solo block in the second set. Laura Kluk had 10 digs with 26 assists and Jessie Fiala produced a team-high 11 digs.

North Central gets back on the court on Friday when they head to the Wheaton College Thunder Invitational. The Cardinals play Trinity International University at 3:00 p.m. and follow with the College of Mount St. Joseph at 5:00 p.m.
