Volleyball Drops Two at Wheaton

WHEATON, Ill. (Sept. 28, 2013) – The North Central College volleyball team suffered two setbacks today at the Wheaton College Thunder Invitational.  The University of Wisconsin-Platteville swept the Cardinals 3-0, before the University of Wisconsin-Stout beat North Central 3-1.

In the opener against UW-Platteville, the Pioneers snuck by the Cardinals (7-13) 25-23, but that would be as close as North Central would come.  Platteville won the next two sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-13. 

Katie Connolly fueled the offensive attack with 15 assists and Jessie Fiala led the defense with 21 digs.  Amanda Walker chipped in three block assists. 

Against Stout, North Central again lost a close first set, 29-27, and the Blue Devils took a 2-0 lead after a 25-21 second set victory.  The Cardinals regrouped took win the third set 25-18, but falter in the fourth set 25-23. 

Walker led the Cardinals with 14 kills and freshman Danielle Williams chipped in 11.  Connolly eclipsed her career high, set earlier in the day, with 41 assists and added three service aces.  Fiala dug out 30 balls and Kedryn Orrison had five block assists. 

Orrison was named to the all-tournament team along with Platteville's Stephanie Kirchner, Stout's Karley Weinsch, Trinity International University's Victoria Boyd and Hannah Vanarsdall of the College of Mount St. Joseph.

North Central jumps back into College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin play on Tuesday when they travel to North Park University at 7:00 p.m.
