Whitewater, Wis. (Sept. 6, 2013) – The North Central College volleyball team crushed Concordia University-Wisconsin 3-0, before dropping their second match of the evening to the No. 13-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at Whitewater.
The Cardinals (2-3) rolled past Concordia in the team's opening match. The Cardinals cruised to 25-15 victories in the first two sets before squeaking out a 25-22 in the clincher. North Central blew open a 12-9 game with six of the next eight points to take a commanding 19-11 advantage in the first set.
In the second set, North Central jumped all over Concordia and scored 12 of the set's first 16 points, helped by multiple kills by
Kedryn Orrison and
Danielle Williams. The final set was more of the same with the Cardinals cruising to an early 8-1 lead, and continued its dominance over the Eagles. North Central didn't trail for the entire match.
Williams led the attack with 11 kills, while
Amy Hermle had five kills with a .625 attack percentage.
Laura Kluk handed out 32 assists, while
Jessie Fiala dug out a team-high 12 balls.
In the second match, the host Warhawks took control with 25-16 and 25-17 victories before closing the match with a 25-21 win.
After a near wire-to-wire win by the Warhawks in the second set, the Cardinals took an early 6-2 lead in the critical third, but were unable to hang on as Whitewater tied the score at six. The score was tied for a second time at 10 all, but the hosts took control from there en route to a third straight set win.
Orrison led the team in kills in the second match with eight, while Kluk handed out 16 assists, and Fiala led the squad in digs again with 15.
North Central heads to Lake Forest tomorrow when they take on the Foresters at 10:00 a.m. and follow with Benedictine University at 12:00 p.m.
