Lake Forest, Ill. (Sept. 7, 2012) – For the second consecutive day, the North Central College volleyball team earned a split in its two matches.  The Cardinals took care of the host Lake Forest College 3-1, before falling to Benedictine University 3-0.

Down 20-14 in the first set, North Central (3-4) got hot late and scored 11 of the next 13 points to earn the opening set victory.  Laura Kluk had two kills and Danielle Williams added a pair of service aces to power the comeback.  In the second set, the Cardinals took over late again and blew open a tight 15-13 contest and eased to a 25-18 win.

The Foresters rallied to take the third set to cut into the visitors 2-1 lead, but North Central surged towards the end of the fourth and final set to claim a 25-18 victory.

Williams powered the Cardinal attack with a career-high 17 kills and Kluk set a season-high with 36 assists.  Not to be outdone, Jessie Fiala also dug out a season-high 20 balls.  Also contributing to the North Central offense, were Kedryn Orrison with eight kills and Amanda Walker with nine.

Against Benedictine, the Eagles took an early 6-1 lead in the first set, but the Cardinals did not go quietly.  North Central clawed its way back into the game to tie the score at 10, and held a 16-12 advantage at one point.  However, Benedictine broke an 18-18 tie with five consecutive points, before Orrison broke the streak with a kill from Kluk.  The Eagles then scored the final five points to earn a 25-19 win.

That would be as close the Cardinals would come to the Eagles as they won the second set 25-17 and the third 25-13.
Williams led the Cardinals again in kills with eight, while Amanda Hilmer chipped in seven.  Kluk dished out 23 assists, while
Sarah Eggert had eight digs and Fiala led the team with 12.

Candice Cuppini led the way for Benedictine with 20 kills, while Abby Sattler had 32 assists.

North Central travels to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Pizza Hut Classic next Friday to take on St. Norbert College at 5:30 p.m. and Wisconsin Lutheran College at 7:30 p.m.
