WHEATON, Ill. (Jan. 25, 2014) – Wheaton College opened the game with a 15-0 run in the first 3:29 and the visiting North Central College women's basketball never recovered as the home team cruised to a 118-81 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin victory.
Larynn Shumaker finally snapped the Thunder (13-4, 4-3) spurt with a layup, but the Thunder continued to convert on the offensive end as their lead swelled to 30 points on a free throw by Katie McDaniels with just over seven minutes left in the first half.
The Cardinals (9-9, 2-5) cut the lead to 20 on two separate occasions but the teams headed to the locker rooms with the score 63-36. The Thunder shot an impressive 65.7% in the first half to build their advantage.
North Central came no closer than their 27 point halftime deficit as the Thunder continued their hot shooting and held the Cardinal offense to 30% shooting on the evening.
Anita Sterling led four players in double figures for North Central with 15 points including 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. Ellie Zeller powered the Thunder explosion with 32 points in just 28 minutes of action.
North Central returns home on Wednesday when they host Augustana College at 7:00 p.m. at Gregory Arena.
