Oct. 11, 2014 - The North Central College men's soccer team faced off against CCIW foe #18 North Park University in a tough 4-3 loss Saturday night.
The match got off to a great start for the Cardinals (8-4-1) when senior
Lucas Habeeb (5) took a pass from junior
Matt Koth (6) in the 3rd minute and drilled it in the back of the net to put them up 1-0. The Vikings (10-2) made sure to get back in it in the 21st minute with a goal from midfielder Pedram Tahmi-Masolah (9) making the match a 1-1 tie.
North Park University proved their offensive talent by scoring quickly in the 24th minute when forward Carl Damberg took the ball through the Cardinal's defense to give the Vikings a 2-1 lead.
The Cardinals did not let that goal bring them down and they responded with another goal right before half. Koth (11) received a nice leading pass from defender
Jon Borzick (1) and bulleted a shot past the goalie to tie it up 2-2 in the 34th minute.
After halftime, both sides were aggressive and turned each side's advances back. This was until the 62nd minute when the Vikings took advantage of a penalty kick situation and Tahmi-Masolah (9) scored again making the score 3-2.
The Vikings continued their push and just one minute later forward Kebba Sanyang (2) knocked in an unassisted goal in the 64th minute. This put the Vikings two goals ahead with a 4-2 overrall score.
The Cardinals kept their heads up and kept attacking and attempted to take advantage of mismatch situations. Finally, in the 79th minute, senior
Jake Johnson (2) scored his second goal of the season with a great assist coming from Koth (6) making the score 4-3.
This would be the last goal the Cardinals would be able to get however. The Vikings held on to their lead for the rest of the match and dropped the Cardinals to 8-4-1.
