Oct. 14, 2014 – The North Central College women's volleyball team never found its groove Tuesday evening against 20
th-ranked Carthage College, falling 3-0 inside Gregory Arena.
With the score knotted 9-9 midway through the opening set, a
Laura Kluk kill gave the Cardinals (16-6, 0-3 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) a 10-9 lead, but that lead would not last long as the Lady Reds (21-2, 3-0 CCIW) responded with three straight points and would hang on to the lead the remainder of the set.
North Central maintained the lead a majority of the second set, but the turning point came as the two teams were tied 22-22. Following a North Central timeout, Carthage's Karen Chin forced a Cardinal ball handling error followed by a service ace to put Carthage up two, before Emily Heuermann finished off the set 25-23 with a kill.
The third set was all Lady Reds, forcing a Cardinal timeout after jumping out to a 6-1 lead. The North Central offense was only able to put together one double-digit scoring rally in the set, ultimately falling 25-12.
Kedryn Orrison finished with a team-high eight kills to lead the Cardinal offense,
Cara Howell added seven kills while
Amanda Walker and
Amanda Hilmer each added six. Kluk added 27 assists and nine digs, while
Jill Galovic finished with a game-high 19 digs.
North Central is back in action Friday, Oct. 17, playing host to North Park University at 7 pm. Links to live video and statistics are available
