Oct. 15, 2014 - The North Central College men's soccer team lost a road game 1-0 against Elmhurst College on Wednesday night.
The Cardinals (8-5-1) put up 14 shots on the game and were not able to find the goal against the Blue Jays (7-3-3).
The first half proved to be difficult for both teams and they each went without scoring through the first 45 minutes. The Cardinals managed to push the ball enough to get eight shots in the first half and the Blue Jays followed with 10 shots of their own.
The Blue Jays' senior forward Brett Stiffler scored his fourth goal of the season in the 46th minute to open up the second half. The assist came from freshman Ben Swanson-Ralph and the score was 1-0 at this point.
The second half saw some very physical play after the goal with three yellow cards being handed out. Two of the cards were given to the Blue Jays, one at the 64th minute to forward Ben Swanson-Ralph and the other to forward Brett Stiffler at the 84th minute. Cardinals' forward
Joey Faleni received a yellow card in the 90th minute due to some aggressive play.
Although both teams put up a fair amount of shots in the first half, only the Cardinals were able to repeat their earlier performance offensively. The Cardinals finished the second half with six shots and the Blue Jays put up two of their own.
This loss moves the Cardinals to 1-2-0 in CCIW play while the Blue Jays move up to 1-1-1.
The Cardinals continue play on Oct. 22 when they are on the road against Augustana College at 7:30 p.m. Live in game statistics and video can be accesed by clicking
