Oct. 17, 2014 – Taking control from the opening point, the North Central College women's volleyball cruised its first College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) win of the season over North Park University, 3-0 Friday night inside Gregory Arena.
In set number one, the Cardinal attack came out swinging, jumping out to a 3-0 lead behind kills from
Amanda Walker,
Julie Laugel and
Laura Kluk. The offensive attach kept the pressure on North Park all night, as kills from Laugel and
Claire Vrabec gave the Cardinals a 18-9 lead and the Cardinals ran away with the set 25-13.
The second set was much of the same for the Cardinal offense, jumping out to an 8-0 lead behind three kills from Laugel as well as kills from
Cara Howell and Kluk. The Cardinals (17-6, 1-3 CCIW) held steady the remainder of the set while only allowing two Viking scoring rallies consisting of multiple points, taking the set 25-14.
With the score knotted at five early in the third set,
Kedryn Orrison put the Cardinals ahead with a solo block, while
Katie Connolly kept the North Park defense on its heels with a service ace while also forcing an attack error, giving the hosts a 8-5 lead. North Central would hold the lead the rest of the way, at one point leading by as many as eight points.
Laugel led the Cardinal attack with a career-high 18 kills, while Kluk added six kills and a game-high 30 assists.
Jill Galovic paced the defense with 15 digs to go along with a pair of service aces.
North Central returns home Tuesday, Oct. 21, playing host to 21
