Oct. 20, 2014 - North Central College freshman kicker/punter Dom Zavaglia has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Special Teams Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 18.
Zavaglia received the distinction, his second of the season, in recognition of his contributions to the Cardinals' 53-23 victory over Carthage College on Saturday. He tied a school single-game record by making four field goals in four attempts, the longest of which was 39 yards. He also punted three times for a 40.3-yard average, converted five of six extra-point attempts and kicked off eight times for a 59.2-yard average.
The CCIW's current leader in field goals made (9) and points scored by kicking (58), Zavaglia also received Player of the Week honors following North Central's 47-13 win over Millikin University on Oct. 4, when he converted six extra points and two field goals while also completing a 25-yard pass on a fake punt and converting one of two successful onside-kick attempts in the CCIW this season.
Teammates Ryan Kent and Peter Sorenson have received CCIW Player of the Week honors this season on offense following the Cardinals' games against the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and Millikin, respectively.
