Oct. 22, 2014 -
The North Central College men's soccer team increased their win total against conference opponents when they traveled to Augustana College by beating them 1-0.

The Cardinals (9-5-1) seemed to find some offensive success by putting up seven shots in the first period and five in the second against the Vikings (9-5-1).

Junior midfielder Joey Faleni found himself to be in the right situations by firing five shots for the game. Faleni (2) broke out in the 32nd minute and scored the first goal of the game for the Cardinals and put them up 1-0. The team would take the lead into halftime after solid defensive play to close out the first period.

The game proved to be very physical with a good amount of fouls occurring on both sides. The Cardinals received nine fouls themselves while the Vikings accumulated 11.

Both the Cardinals and the Vikings found it tough to create opportunities in the second period. Freshman defenseman Jon Borzick helped to break up a couple of the Vikings' advances.

The Cardinals were able to hold on to their 1-0 lead for the rest of the match and they closed it out to improve their record in the College Conference of Illinois and WIsconsin (CCIW) to 2-2.

The Cardinals continue play on Oct. 25 for their Senior Night at 3:30 p.m. when they host No. 10 Wheaton College at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. Live in game statistics and video can be accesed by clicking HERE.
