Oct. 6, 2014 - North Central College senior wide receiver Peter Sorenson and freshman kicker/punter Dom Zavaglia have been recognized as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Players of the Week on offense and special teams, respectively, for the week of Oct. 4.
Sorenson earned the first Player of the Week accolades of his career after catching eight passes for a career-high 156 yards and two touchdowns in the Cardinals' 47-13 victory over Millikin University on Saturday. He hauled in a career-long 80-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter and caught multiple TD passes in a game for the eighth time. A two-time All-CCIW performer and a First Team All-Conference pick last season, Sorenson now has 27 career touchdown receptions to leave him just one short of the school record of 28, held by Tyke Spencer '06.
Zavaglia collected North Central's first special teams honors of 2014 after converting six extra-point attempts and two field goals, including a season-long attempt of 37 yards, in the victory. He also completed a 25-yard pass on a fake punt and executed an onside kick that the Cardinals recovered. Zavaglia has made 18 of 20 extra points and 5 of 6 field goals this season while also handling the bulk of the team's kickoff and punt duties.
Teammate Ryan Kent has also received CCIW Player of the Week honors this season, selected as the conference's top offensive performer following a 28-7 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on Sep. 20.
No. 12-ranked North Central travels to face North Park University (0-4, 0-1) next Saturday. Kickoff at the Holmgren Athletic Complex in Chicago is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Links to live audio and in-game statistics are available by clicking HERE.
