Oct. 7, 2014 - Retaining an award he has owned almost exclusively in 2014, North Central College men's cross country runner Troy Kelleher has been selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Athlete of the Week for Sep. 29-Oct. 5.

Now the owner of four of the six Athlete of the Week Awards that have been bestowed this season, Kelleher has been so honored following each race in which he has competed in 2014. Most recently, he led the No. 1-ranked Cardinals to a second-place finish in the 23-team Gold Division race at the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday. Competing against teams from each of the NCAA's three divisions, including 15 Division I programs, North Central finished with 82 points, 11 behind Grand Valley State University (Michigan), currently the No. 2-ranked NCAA Division II squad in the nation. Kelleher once again was the Cardinals' top finisher, placing sixth in the field with a time of 24 minutes, 14.7 seconds.

The 40-time defending conference champions have now won five of the CCIW's six weekly awards this season. Teammate Daniel Robles received the honor for the week of Sep. 1-7.

North Central will compete in the Benedictine University Eagle Invitational on Friday at St. James Farm in Warrenville. The men's race is scheduled to begin at 4:45 p.m.
