Oct. 7, 2014 - For the third time in the last four weeks, North Central College women's cross country runner Megan Costanzo has been selected as the top performer in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW), as she has been named the CCIW's Athlete of the Week for Sep. 29-Oct. 5.
Costanzo now owns three of the six CCIW Athlete of the Week awards which have been given out in 2014 after helping lead the 23rd-ranked Cardinals to a 17th-place finish in the Gold Division of the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday. Competing against teams from each of the NCAA's three divisions, including 19 NCAA Division I programs, Costanzo placed 32nd in the field after covering the 5,000-meter (3.1-mile) course in 17 minutes, 37.6 seconds.
She also received the CCIW's weekly accolades following a second-place finish in the Illinois Intercollegiate Invitational on Sep. 13 and a fourth-place showing in the Wheaton College Gil Dodds Invitational on Sep. 20.
North Central travels to St. James Farm in Warrenville for the Benedictine University Eagle Invitational on Friday. The women's race is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
