Nov. 1, 2014 - The North Central College men's soccer team finished an up-and-down season with a solid 2-0 victory over Illinois Wesleyan University. The Cardinals (10-7-1) only needed seven shots for the team to put up two goals on host Illinois Wesleyan University (7-12).
The team displayed some patience with the ball on offense throughout the match but they started it off great. Junior Evan Landmark (5) scored in his second straight game on Saturday at the seventh minute off a pass from senior Joey Faleni (2). This goal would give the Cardinals an early 1-0 lead which they would carry into halftime. The Titans were consistent with an aggressive offensive attack that saw the team get off 17 shots for the match. However, freshman goalie Tyler Olsen would be very active in the net and help to shutout the Titans. In the 81st minute, defenseman
Jon Borzick (1) would score his first goal of the season when senior forward
Lucas Habeeb (7) laced a pass through the defense to solidify the Cardinal lead at 2-0.
The Cardinals would go on to win the match and improve their conference record to 3-4 on the season. However, they were one win shy of making the tournament in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW).
Junior
Matt Koth will finish the season as second in the CCIW in overrall goals with 11 and he will be tied for first in assists with seven with fellow Cardinal Habeeb.
