Nov. 10, 2014 - North Central College sophomore quarterback Dylan Warden and freshman linebacker Tom Sora have been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Football Players of the Week on offense and defense, respectively, for the week of Nov. 8.
The pair were selected as the conference's top performers for the roles they played in the Cardinals' 43-14 Senior Day win over Augustana College on Saturday at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. Warden completed 14 of 18 passes for 196 yards and a career-high five touchdowns, one short of North Central's all-time single-game record. He is the first Cardinal quarterback with more touchdowns than incompletions in a game since Spencer Stanek on Oct. 12 of last season against Millikin University.
Sora, making his second collegiate start at middle linebacker, turned in a career-high 12 tackles as North Central limirted the Vikings to a season-low 235 yards of total offense. Nine of Sora's 12 tackles were for gains of three yards or less.
North Central has received a total of seven CCIW Player of the Week awards this season. Wide receiver Peter Sorenson and running back Ryan Kent have been so honored on offense, while linebacker Michael Monterrubio was last week's winner on defense and kicker/punter Dom Zavaglia has been the conference's Special Teams Player of the Week twice.
Ranked No. 18 by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and No. 19 by D3football.com, the Cardinals wrap up the 2014 regular season at Elmhurst College (5-4, 4-2 CCIW) on Saturday. Kickoff at Langhorst Field is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Links to live video, audio and in-game statistics are available by clicking HERE.
