Sep. 16, 2014 - North Central College men's cross country runner Troy Kelleher has been selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Athlete of the Week for Sep. 8-14, making him the CCIW's first two-time winner in 2014.

Kelleher was named the CCIW's top-performing men's cross country competitor for the second time in three weeks after leading the Cardinals to a third-place finish in the seven-team Country Financial Illinois State University Invitational on Friday. Competing against a field comprised solely of NCAA Division I opposition, Kelleher placed sixth in a 74-man field, turning in a time of 24 minutes, 32 seconds on the 8,000-meter (five-mile) course. North Central totaled 58 points in the meet, just 10 points short of the first-place University of Iowa.

The Cardinals have now won all three of the CCIW's weekly awards this season. Teammate Daniel Robles received the honor last week.

North Central is idle this week and will return to competition next weekend by sending a squad to the College of DuPage Invitational at St. James Farm in Warrenville on Friday, Sep. 26. The Cardinals will take a separate group to the NCAA Division III Pre-National Meet at The Golf Center at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio on Saturday, Sep. 27.
