Sep. 16, 2014 - North Central College women's cross country runner Megan Costanzo has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Athlete of the Week for Sep. 8-14.
Costanzo received the honor after turning in a second-place finish in a field of 139 competitors in the Illinois Intercollegiate Invitational hosted by Olivet Nazarene University on Friday. She completed the 5,000-meter (3.1-mile) course in 18 minutes, 12.0 seconds, narrowly missing out on the individual championship as Trinity Christian College's Jessica Disselkoen was just a step ahead at 18:11.7.
The Cardinals also placed second as a team, as their total of 49 points was bettered by only the host Tigers' score of 48.
The champion in the 10,000-meter run at last spring's CCIW Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Costanzo is a CCIW Athlete of the Week award winner for the first time in her collegiate career.
North Central travels to St. James Farm in Warrenville on Saturday for the Wheaton College Gil Dodds Invitational. Competition is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
