Sept. 17, 2014 – The North Central College women's tennis team extended its winning streak to five Wednesday afternoon with a 9-0 victory over non-conference opponent Dominican University at the NCC Tennis Courts.
The Cardinals (6-2) jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after doubles play, as the duo of
Kelsey Forkin and
Reynolds Cross eased past Marbeya Berner and Jillian Metcalf, 8-0 at the No. 1 position. At the No. 2 spot,
Katie Drone and
Miranda Grizaffi cruised past Megan Hickey and Mady Corrie, 8-1 while
Clare O'Connor and
Kassandra Bernardo were also victorious by an 8-1 margin, over Carmelit Villalobos and Morganna Schmidt at No. 3
In singles play, drone swept Berner in straight 6-0 sets at No. 1, while Grizaffi downed Hickey, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 and Forkin made quick work of Metcalf at No. 3, 6-1, 6-0. At the No. 4 position, Cross fought past Villalobos, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4, while O'Connor defeated Corrie, 7-5, 6-0 at No. 5 and
Karissa Schroeder cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Schmidt at No. 6.
North Central travels to Kalamazoo College, Sept. 19-21 for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regionals.
