Box Score

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Sep. 18, 2014): The North Central College men's soccer team came out on top against the visiting Benedictine Eagles Thursday night at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium, 2-1.

The game was very chippy and it was easy to see the intensity from both sides for the entirety of the match. Benedictine University (1-5-1) came out a little too aggressive and a red card was pulled on the Eagles for Hugo Gomez. The red card made it so the Eagles played down a man against North Central College (4-2-1) for the rest of the match.

The rest of the first period showed continued physical play from each team but the Cardinals could not take advantage of the mismatch and the teams went into halftime with a 0-0 score.

At the 73rd minute, sophomore Mark Brindle (2) scored off an assist from senior John Kissel (1). The visiting Eagles were put down 1-0 and the Cardinals were rejuvinated and played with a passion from there on out.

The Cardinals continued the offensive push and got another score off some great passing from senior Lucas Habeeb (4) who streaked up the sidelines to create opportunities for teammates. The pass came across the middle and junior Matt Koth (4) notched in a goal after stretching out the goalie between him and Habeeb.

The Eagles did score a goal in the 89th minute but this left very little time for them to make any other progress. The Cardinals wrapped up the game with some solid defense for the last couple minutes and got the win.

The Cardinals play their next game at Lake Forest College next Tuesday at 4:30 P.M.
