Sep. 22, 2014 - North Central College senior running back Ryan Kent has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Offensive Football Player of the Week for Sept. 15-21.
A winner of one of the CCIW's weekly awards for the first time in his collegiate career, Kent was selected as this week's top-performing offensive player in the conference after helping lead the fifth-ranked Cardinals to a 28-7 victory over the then-No. 7-ranked University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneers on Saturday at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. Kent rushed for 177 yards on 22 carries and scored two touchdowns, including a 62-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter which effectively put the game out of reach.
Kent's effort was his second-highest single-game yardage total in a Caridnal uniform, topped only by the 257-yard, four-touchdown performance he put together in the second round of last season's NCAA Divison III Football Championship, also against Wisconsin-Platteville. He became the seventh North Central player to rush for at least 2,000 career yards (2,066) in the game and currently ranks sixth in the Cardinals' history in that category while also ranking sixth in all-purpose yards (2,585), seventh in rushing touchdowns (23) and 10th in scoring (144). He was a Second Team All-CCIW selection last season.
North Central concludes its non-conference schedule on Saturday, traveling to face the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, which is 2-0 following a 37-21 win over Coe College. Kickoff at Community Stadium is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Links to live audio, video and in-game statistics are available by clicking HERE.
