KALAMAZOO, Mich. (Sept. 19-22) – The North Central College women's tennis team participated in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Tournament, hosted by Kalamazoo College, Sept. 19-22.
In singles play, the Cardinals were highlighted by
Katie Drone's 2-2 finish over the course of the weekend. After dropping her opening match, Drone fell 6-0, 6-0 to the University of Chicago's Jasmine Lee, the eventual runner-up finisher.
Drone bounced back nicely with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Emily Harper of Otterbein University in the first round of the consolation bracket, before cruising past Kalamazoo's Kristen Ellefson, 6-1, 6-0. Drone's tournament would eventually come to an end in the third round of the consolation bracket as Augustana College's Mollie Magee came out with a 6-3, 6-2 win.
In doubles play, the combination of
Kelsey Forkin and
Reynolds Cross opened the tournament with an 8-4 victory over Kalamazoo's Ellefson and Eloise Germic, but were eliminated in the following round by Chicago's Tiffany Chen and Courtney Warren, 8-0.
North Central returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 27, hosting College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) foe Wheaton College at the NCC Tennis Courts, with matches slated to begin at 2 pm.
