Sept. 23, 2014 – The North Central College women's volleyball team improved to 14-2 this season with a 3-1 victory over Concordia University Chicago, Tuesday evening inside Gregory Arena.
The Cardinals (14-2) cruised to a 25-15 win in the opening set, leading from the opening point and outscoring the Cougars 13-5 down the stretch.
In the second set, North Central trailed 6-2 early but rebounded to score the next six points to take an 8-6 lead behind a pair of kills from
AnnMarie Bachmann, and kills from
Kedryn Orrison and
Claire Vrabec. North Central outscored the Cougars (3-10), 23-7 after trailing early, to claim the second set 25-13.
North Central struggled to get anything going offensively in the third set, trailing from the opening point and never catching up to the Cougar attack, eventually falling 21-25.
The Cardinal offense responded nicely in the fourth set with a convincing 25-16 win as the Cardinals broke it open halfway through, scoring on kills from Orrison,
Julie Laugel and
Amy Hermle, all assisted by
Laura Kluk, to secure the match 3-1.
Laugel and Vrabec each tallied nine kills to lead the Cardinal attack, while Orrison finished with eight. Kluk finished with a game-high 45 assists, while
Jill Galovic added 26 digs defensively.
North Central begins College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) play Sept. 30, traveling to Wheaton College at 7 pm.
