(Sept. 5, 2014) – The North Central College women's volleyball team improved to 6-0 this with a pair of wins at the North Park University Clash, downing Marian University, 3-0 before edging out Central College, 3-2 in the second match of the afternoon.
In the opening match against Marian, North Central cruised to a 3-0 victory, 25-14, 25-19, 25-15. The Sabres (3-4) were unable to stop the Cardinal attack as
Julie Laugel (11) and
Kedryn Orrison (10) each finished with double-digit kills, while
Laura Kluk added 27 assists. Defensively the Cardinals (6-0) were led by
Jessie Fiala's 15 digs, while Laugel added 10 digs and Orrison finished with three solo blocks and one assist.
In the nightcap against Central (3-2), the two teams traded the first four sets, 25-21, 21-25, 25-23, 21-25 before North Central rallied late to claim the fifth set 16-14 and remain undefeated so far this season.
Amanda Hilmer paced the Cardinal offense with 18, while Laugel chipped in 12 and Kluk finished game two with 45 assists. Once again, the defense was led by Fiala's 20 digs, while the senior libero also added a pair of service aces.
North Central continues play in Chicago, Ill., tomorrow at 10 am against Aurora University, before concluding play in the North Park Clash at 12 pm against Knox College.
