Box Score

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (September 6, 2014): The North Central College men's soccer team won a 2-0 game at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium after beating visiting Central College from Pella, Iowa.

The Cardinals (3-1) got off to a nice start with some great ball movement early on but the visiting Dutch (1-4) responded with active defense.

In the 29th minute, the Cardinals netted their first goal coming from forward Evan Landmark (3) off an impressive display of passing by forward Lucas Habeeb and defenseman Matt Koth

The Cardinals took advantage on offense and took multiple close shots but went without another goal to close out the rest of the period.

The second period was slower and both teams had to grind it out. The Cardinals were aggressive but had to compete for their opportunities to score. In the 73rd minute, defenseman Matt Koth (2) received a well-placed pass from forward Pat Rourke and scored to put the Cardinals up 2-0.

Visiting Central College could not find a way to get many shots and goalie Zach Serovy was on point the whole game.  The Cardinals went on to win 2-0 and moved their overall record to 3-1.

North Central faces off against visiting Penn St.- Behrend in the Sal Vaccaro Tournament on Friday at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium, beginning at 7:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on Naperville Community Television, Channel 17, and nctrl17.com
