QUINCY, Ill. (Sept. 6, 2014) – The North Central College women's tennis team participated in the Quincy University Fall Tournament at Reservoir Park Saturday, as
Kelsey Forkin and
Hanna Andersson each turned in third-place singles performances.
Forkin began the afternoon with an 8-2 victory over Emily Daniels of Saint Ambrose University at No. 4 singles, before falling to Quincy's Michelle Gass in the second round by an 8-3 margin. After her previous loss sent her to the third-place match, Forkin responded nicely with a hard fought 8-5 win over Kine Kleppe of Maryville University.
In No. 6 singles, Andersson cruised to an 8-1 first round victory over Leanna Krueger of Judson University, before stumbling to Maryville's Katie Tietmann, 8-2, sending Andersson to the third-place match. Like Forkin, Andersson rebounded in her final match of the tournament to take third-place with an 8-6 win over Jess Capps of William Jewel College.
In doubles play, the combination of
Kassandra Bernardo and
Karissa Schroeder turned in a second-place finish at No. 4 doubles. The duo opened the day with an 8-4 victory over William Jewel's Valerie Yeutter and Seki Anderson. In the second round, Bernardo and Schroeder cruised to an 8-0 win, before running into a tough Truman State University team of Holly Cantalupo and Lindsey Schlichtin in the championship, ultimately falling 8-3.
North Central travels to Aurora University, Sept. 9 with matches slated to begin at 3 pm at Washington Middle School.
