Chicago, Ill. (Oct. 10, 2015) – The North Central College men's soccer team showed their true talent, and defeated 15^th-ranked North Park University 1-0 in a Collegiate Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) matchup on Saturday night at the Holmgren Complex.

Senior Matt Koth scored the match-winning goal on a penalty kick in the 78^th minute, in what was a just reward for the Cardinals.

The Vikings were lucky the deficit was not larger, as the Cardinals opened the match strongly and had several near-misses. Senior Evan Landmark had a shot blocked in the first minute, followed by junior John Kissel who had one blocked in the 7^th. Sophomore Karl Bappert then missed just right in the seventh minute

The Cardinals high-press and hard running gave the Vikings problems all night, as they executed head coach Matt Klosterman's game plan to near perfection.

After several double-overtime and overtime losses against nationally-ranked and quality opponents, beating North Park should be the springboard the Cardinals need to succeed in the conference tournament, and then make a run to nationals. It was only ever a matter of time until the Cardinals had a breakthrough win such as this one.
