Naperville, Ill. (Oct. 14, 2015) – Senior Matt Koth scored a match-winning goal for the second consecutive game, this time in overtime, as the North Central College men's soccer team defeated the Elmhurst College Bluejays 2-1, in a Collegiate Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) matchup on Wednesday night at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.

Koth's first goal came in the 24th minute, using his footwork he was able to weave his way through several Bluejay defenders and score unassisted for the Cardinals.

While the Cardinals finished out the first half comfortably, the beginning of the second half was somewhat of a different story. In the 52nd minute Alec Gnassscored off a header for the Bluejays, and was assisted by Austin Larson.

The remainder of the match saw the two teams trade scoring opportunities, with the Bluejays finishing with nine shots and the Cardinals eight.

Koth's next goal, and what would prove to be the match-winner, came in the opening minute of overtime. Koth's sensational play as of late has been a key reason the Cardinals success the past couple games, and figures to help the team finish the season out strongly.

Playing such a tough non-conference schedule and challenging several nationally-ranked teams is now starting to pay dividends for the Cardinals, as they are playing with great confidence and proving that they can be a force in the CCIW and push for the conference tournament.

The Cardinals host the University of California-Santa Cruz in a non-conference matchup at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium on Sunday, Oct.18, with game time at 1:00 pm. Live stats can be found at the following link.
