Oct. 14, 2015 - The North Central College women's soccer team lost a heartbreaker as they fell to Elmhurst College 2-1 in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) matchup Wednesday night at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
An early goal by Elmhurst's Courtney O'Keeffe in the 10
th minute meant that the Cardinals would be playing catch-up for majority of the match. They would realize this as they finished out the period with a 7-4 shot advantage over the visiting Bluejays, however still facing a 1-0 deficit at the break.
North Central (7-6, 2-1) would not give up though as they continued to fire shots at the Bluejays keeper. In the 78
th minute,
Jessica DeJong headed the ball into the back of the net and tied the score up, lifting the Cardinals spirits and almost ensuring that overtime would be needed to decide the victor. Unfortunately, that would not be the case as Emily Heimerdinger connected with four minutes left in the period.
The little amount of time left proved too difficult to overcome and the Bluejays (6-4-2, 1-2) would go on to defeat the Cardinals.
DeJong continued her offensive production and logged her 6
th goal of the season. North Central ended with a 13-10 shot advantage and were even with Elmhurst in shots on goal with seven apiece.
North Central receives a week long break in action and returns to host Augustana College on Wednesday, Oct. 21 with game time at 5:30 pm.
