Nov. 9, 2015 - North Central College football player Tyler Oakley has been selected as the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Special Teams Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 7.
Oakley received the honor for his contributions to the Cardinals' 27-10 victory at Augustana College on Saturday. He returned two kickoffs for 103 yards, including a 70-yard return that set up North Central's final touchdown of the first half, in addition to recording his second interception of the year on defense. The 70-yard return is the Cardinals' longest this season.
Willett was also named the CCIW's Special Teams Player of the Week following the 2014 season finale at Elmhurst.
North Central now has four CCIW Player of the Week Award winner this season, three of which have come on special teams. Kicker/punter Dom Zavaglia was selected as the CCIW's Special Teams Player of the Week for Sep. 26 and linebacker Al Willett received the same honor last week. Running back Austin Breunig was named the conference's Offensive Playerof the Week for Oct. 10.
The 16th-ranked Cardinals (6-3, 5-1 CCIW) close out the campaign next Saturday, hosting Elmhurst College (4-5, 1-5 CCIW) at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., with Senior Day activities to be conducted prior to the game.
