Box Score Sep. 16, 2015 – Despite fighting valiantly to the 90
th minute, the North Central College men's soccer team were defeated 2-1 by the Dominican University Stars at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium on Wednesday night.
The match did not get off to an ideal start for the Cardinals, as Iven Hernandez scored a breakaway goal down the right wing for the Stars in the second minute.
Despite the early deficit, North Central showed resiliency and bounced back to score in this sixth minute. Sophomore
Karl Bappert was on the receiving end of a perfectly placed corner kick from sophomore
Ryan O'Deen, and score via a header. Bappert's height and timing proved too much for the Stars defenders.
The game would not be even for very long though, with Dominican again scoring in the 26
th minute. Ivan Hernandez scored his second goal of the match, with the assist coming from a cross courtesy of Zack Venzon.
While the Cardinals would not again score, they were not without ample opportunities.
Senior
Evan Landmark missed right in the 41
st minute.
Junior
Chandler Olah shot twice in the 51
st minute, with the first shot being saved, and the second sailing over the top of the crossbar. Senior
Joey Faleni also missed left in the 77
th minute.
North Central visits non-conference opponent University of Wisconsin-Platteville on Saturday, Sep. 19. Kickoff is at 5 P.M. Please
