Box Score Platteville, Wis. (Sep. 19, 2015) –The North Central College men's soccer team were beaten 1-0 by the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on Saturday night. In a match that saw both sides play an attacking brand of soccer, the Cardinals were unlucky not to score on several of the opportunities they generated.
North Central had 13 shots throughout the game, including four on goal. In the eight minute, senior
Nick Barstatis had a header that almost opened the scoring account for the Cardinals, but was saved by Pioneers goalkeeper Scott Sibik.
The remainder of the first half was largely a back and forth affair, until the 38
th minute when the Pioneers were able to penetrate the Cardinals defence, and score via a Nick Hoklas volley. The ball was headed into the box by Logan Rinderknecht, then volleyed into the back of the net.
The Cardinals weren't without opportunity in the second half either. In the 58
th minute, senior midfielder
Nick Tiedt missed wide, then in the 61
st minute senior midfielder
Evan Landmark missed high.
The positives North Central can take out of the match are that again they showed the ability to generate shots and scoring opportunities. It is only a matter of time until this happens, and the results will reflect this.
The Cardinals play next on Sep. 22 against the 5
th ranked University of Chicago (6-1) at Stagg Field at 7 P.M. Live in game statistics can be accessed by clicking
