Box Score Chicago, Ill. (Sep. 22, 2015) –A header in the 38
th minute by sophomore midfielder
Sean McCaffrey was not enough to get the North Central men's soccer team over the line, as they were defeated 2-1 by the eleventh-ranked University of Chicago on Tuesday night at Stagg Field.
The header was McCaffrey's first goal of the season, and was assisted by sophomore defender
Karl Bappert. It drew the score level to 1 goal apiece, and put the Cardinals in a position to defeat the eleventh-ranked team in the country.
The Cardinals started the match off strongly, with junior forward
Chandler Olah taking the ball down the right wing, firing a shot, and barely missing wide.
Despite North Central's quality play early, it was Chicago who were first to score. This occurred in the 22
nd minute, when junior defender Daniel Weise scored, courtesy of an assist from senior midfielder Jorge Bilbao.
Junior forward
Chandler Olah would have his shot blocked in the 55
th minute, while senior forward
Matt Koth came agonizingly close to scoring in the 72
nd minute, only for his shot to be saved.
Only a minute later, Brenton-Neil Desai would score what would be the game winning goal for Chicago, scoring in close of a rebound.
The Cardinals can take confidence and momentum from this game, knowing that they showed they can match it with one of the best teams in the country.
The Cardinals play next on Sep. 27 against the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (6-1-1) at the Oshkosh Sports Complex at 1 P.M. Live in game statistics can be accessed by clicking
